Rim Width - Stagger???

OK... Noobie question. The left side rims that came with my son's champ kart are a different width. The difference is less then 1/2 inch. So what is the thinking behind this? Which rim goes where? What are the advantages/disadvantages.of having different width rims?

The width of the rim will determine the default tire rollout. Wider rim, less rollout, more stagger. Narrower rim, more rollout, less stagger.

Hope that answers your question.

The wheel width affects the tire size (rollout) and the sidewall flex.

The sidewall flex has an effect that is like a spring rate, I still can't figure out exactly how to tune with that!

Sometimes if you want to get bigger stagger you have to run wider left side wheels and/or narrower right side wheels.

Until you get lots of set up experience, stick to the standard wheel set up from the kart manufacturer. For a left turn only kart: 10"rights, 6"LF, 6-6 1/2 LR (Asphalt) 8 1/4- 8 1/2 LR (Dirt)
