Was woundering what the proper piston ring end gap is for a 5hp flathead, stock unresticted.. compression scaper and oil ring the same? and if so what are the specs, i currently have .010 to .012 any help would be great.

ring gap

My briggs bible says Alum cyl .035 for compression and .045 for oil...Cast cyl .030 and .035. Those are the max for your standard engine, those using in race applications may reject rings way below these figures.

As tight as you can make the top ring without making contact. .001" is fine. (Be certain to check the rings at all points in the cylinder - checking for bore taper.)
2nd ring must always be larger ring end gap than top ring (to reduce ring flutter.) .008"-.012" works well.
3rd ring = who cares.....010" - .020" would be nice with the aftermarket low tension rings.
