Ray was one of the best. He served in the Marine Corps from around 1944-46. Early in his career he worked with Hank Williams who had taken Ray under his wing. During his career, he had something like 109 songs on the charts, 46 top tens and eight number ones. Some of the songs even charted on the pop charts.
