RIP Troy Blanton

It is very sad for me to report that Troy Blanton, multiple time winner of the open 2 cycle class at Langley Speedway and long time member of the Hampton Roads Kart Club has passed away after suffering a heart attack. Troy has been my best racing buddy ever, I spent many hours in his shop building any kind of 2 cycle engines and watching races at his home. Not only he was one of the best and smartest drivers I have ever met, including the ones who made it all the way to F1, but he was also great at building 2 cycle engines and a person with a huge heart who would build engines for free trying to help his competitors beat him, something hard to do indeed. Close to be 80, he was still racing on a Wankel powered kart in his late 70s and was as fast as every young fellow. He was still terrorizing youngsters at indoor rental facilities beating them. You should see their faces after being beaten by my old friend. RIP my friend. Hope there are 2 cycle Kart races in heaven, or may be a Wankel class.

Yes, Scott. He taught me so much about 2 stroke engines and we spent so many hours building them... And he gave me a bunch of karting stuff, including engines and my Wankel powered Tony. But most of all since I met him in 2000 he has been like a father to me. That coming from my mouth is a lot, because I lost mine to cancer when I was 11.
