Roller Rockers

You can fool some of the people some of the time
KIMG1634.jpgKIMG1633.jpgFor those of you that have my 1.25 to 1 roller rockers you can greatly improve the longevity of the adjusting screw by putting the lock nut on the bottom of the rocker arm.
To do this you should make your push rod length so that the adjusting screw is recessed into the nut. You want the last thread of the screw recessed into the nut a short distance. The small light weight nut will provide additional strength for the threads of the nut which become very thin when machining it to accept the push rod. The nut has a chamfer or radius on the ID which also helps to guide the push rod back into the adjuster if for some reason it tries to jump out.
It's a time consuming process to get the push rod length just right but well worth the effort.
With the nut on the top of the rocker arm you can use a 5/16" box wrench to loosen it. With the nut on the bottom you must use an open end wrench.
Be sure to use a 1/4 X 28 tap to remove the crimp that makes it a lock nut or you may have trouble loosening the nut with the open end wrench.
