FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The “Rumble in Fort Wayne” will expand to include two divisions utilizing 600cc-powered dirt cars, event organizer Tony Barhorst has announced.
Unrestricted and restricted non-winged 600cc modified midgets will join midgets, winged outlaw modified midgets, karts and quarter midgets in the 16th annual indoor event on Friday, Dec. 27 and Saturday, Dec. 28 at the Memorial Coliseum Expo Center. An optional practice session is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 26 on the 1/6-mile indoor concrete track.

“After much discussion on our 600 classes, I have decided to add both unrestricted and restricted dirt-only 600 divisions,” Barhorst said. “When I say dirt only, I certainly mean it as these cars will be teched closely to Indiana outdoor dirt 600 rules. We will be adding rules soon to assure that these are not specialty cars.”
Cars must have a traditional dirt sprint car look with complete bodies. Cars may be entered in only one class. Teams that wish to enter more than one class must have separate cars, Barhorst said.
The winged outlaw modified midgets, also powered by 600cc engines, will return with nearly the same rules as last year, he said.
“Adjustments will be made to our schedule to allow these three classes to be a part of the event,” Barhorst said.
The new dirt car divisions will use a spec right rear tire, either 69/10W-10 Hoosier NMMA, ASCS2 or KS1, or 70.0/13.0-10GTW American Racer MD-57. An upright seat is mandatory with straight back; no laydown seats are permitted, and seatbacks may recline no more than 18 degrees. Solid or otherwise modified nerf bars with the purpose of weight distribution are not allowed. Tire soaking is prohibited, and violators may be disqualified. Cars must have a 2.5-inch clearance frame to ground.
Barhorst said cars will be teched extensively.
All 600s will pit adjacent to the midgets, he said.
Kart classes include
● Senior Heavy, 375 pounds (ages 15-up; 2013 WKA flathead tech);
● Senior Medium, 350 pounds (ages 15-up; 2013 WKA flathead tech);
● Senior Caged, 425 pounds (ages 15-up, Senior chassis, full body, restraints, 2013 flathead tech);
● Junior Heavy, 300 pounds (ages 10-14; gold restrictor, 2013 WKA flathead tech);
● Junior Caged, 315 pounds (ages 7-14, blue restrictor, Junior chassis, full body, 2013 flathead tech);
● Clone Heavy, 375 pounds (ages 15-up or with permission, AKRA Box Stock);
● Clone Light, 340 pounds (ages 15-up or with permission, AKRA Box Stock).
Additional kart information:
Engine tech, 2012 WKA flatheads (except Clones, AKRA); weight limits are with driver after race with no tolerance, weight cannot be on the driver; mufflers mandatory; clear fuel only with no additives; no tire prep or wet tires in staging; approved helmet, neck brace, suit and gloves mandatory at all times; draw for placement in heat races; no duplicate numbers; any Burris tire; no refunds for any reason.
Quarter midget classes include Heavy Honda (325 pounds), Senior Honda (270), Junior Honda (250), Heavy 160 (325), Light 160 (270), Animal (325) and Novice (240. David and Diana Lesiecki are the quarter midget race coordinators.
Complete racing programs are scheduled for both Friday, Dec. 27 and Saturday, Dec. 28.
