Sprint kart on dirt

My 11 year old daughter is getting into dirt oval racing. We have an older Coyote XP which I know is a sprint kart and not designed for LTO but it’s what we have. Can this thing be made to decently hook on dirt a dirt oval? Any suggestions other than buy a new kart? I’d like to make sure she has enough interest before I dump a ton of money into something that she may lose interest in in a couple months. I’m an old drag racer and am completely new to this dirt thing. Thanks in advance.

Yes, with some know how and creativity it can be made to handle well enough to get some laps in. Coyote should be able to offer you some tips on getting it handle a bit better. Ultimately if you guys decide you are into it… I’m sure there will be plenty of folks at the local track who can point you towards a cheaper lto kart in your area to help get you closer to the front.

Yes a few years ago my friend was in the same situation. He found an older Coyote and we made it work pretty well in the junior class. Then he upgraded.

@adeluxedave , I think it would be helpful to understand where you are racing it at. There's a lot of people on here who race in the very competitive south where an non LTO will be at too much an disadvantage, however in most of the western united states, you'll likely be just fine.

NE Florida and SE Georgia. Right in the middle of the very competitive south. 🤣 Fortunately my home track is small and and not super competitive. It’s a great place for kids to get started out. She has had three races and has done pretty well so far, not winning but staying in the pack. I’m just curious if anyone has any tips for this particular kart.

Used 4.5 LF tire....8.00 RR....6.00 LR/RF. Don't know what size track you are running but we had 1 to 1.25 inches of stagger front and back.....1/16 to 1/8 toe out. LR in as far as possible to start....RR about an inch off frame.

funny how times change. the Coyote Bullet was THE baddest karts there was in the entire country.

We run a backyard league too, and a buddy of mine has a asphalt turned dirt. Not sure his specs and things but can say its Fast.. We run a LO 206 series and he has the track record on that kart.. I can race him on my kart that I can be competetive /win my BadMax and he kicks my but.. Its all fun tho..

We recently opened up a small flat dirt oval track. About half of the dozen karts running are older straight chassis.
My buddy did the same thing dirt oval in his back yard and his older bro is making a dirt oval soon at his place up in Union CT about the size of Lebanon Valley's Oval he's got a ton of land. Bringing a D6 down from NH with GPS so he can get it done quick. He actually runs a sprinter on dirt too, with a flat head on methanol with a huge Kirky seat "hes a big dude". Anyway he has got it dialed not sure what chassis he runs but it works, hooks well on dirt. We are all running basically flat karts on dirt besides him and I've noticed he barely has to work at his steering wheel at all where the flat karts require a bit more driving, I also think that has to do with running clones and spinning way more RPM but that's a different tangent, plus I think it helps cuz hes a big dude he's pretty planted. All of the karts that run have crazy un-restricted engines the only rule we have you have to run slicks, then run what you brung. To me having GOBS of power is great but a few kids that decided to go full mod drag motor basically they always spin out. Gotta have something in the middle. I'll see if I can get a hold of him and see if he could give me a quick rundown on his set up for you. What Econosprint2 wrote sounds very simular to how he set his up from what I remember from talking to him this Saturday at a B day party.
