Stinger clutch and clone motor issue

I have a stinger clutch that I am trying to mount to my clone motor. I am running the clutch outboard and when I install the clutch per the instructions the clutch has about a 1/4" of play on the shaft. I tried installing the spacer that the instructions said I didn't need for outboard setup and still have a lot of play. This can't be right because the drum rubs on the bolts for the chain guard. What am I doing wrong here. Thanks for the help!

Out board you have to make spacers to move it too the outside . then get button head screws for chain guard. or even flatheads and countersink them into chain guard.
run inboard if possible.
