You're not aware of the Irish tartans, perhaps? Scotland predominates in kilts, but the 2 isles share some heritage and people crossing over, and I may well get an Irish kilt in addition to my Hamilton Scottish kilt.. Tartans in Ireland are more closely tied to the county name than the surname. The Hamiltons in Ireland are notably of County Leitrim...

My clan (McMahon) originated in Monaghan as best I can tell. Headed back there in June. Chances are I'll end up at Whiteriver or Athboy kart tracks.
