Tire Cutting

Can someone please explain tire cutting to me? Full rubber, half rubber, thin cuts... When do you use each of these? Why use them? Also, various cutting templates. Thick center, thin sides: vice versa. Can anyone offer an explanation? Thanks

Round cut thick rubber for low bite. Flat cut thin cut for high bite. That is the basic theory. Really that is a little over simplified but to fully explain it would take a book.

too much time to sit and think.....i feel there are only two reasons to cut a new tire up....one is to true the "roundness" and get a good solid foot print. the second is to remove the surface layer that might contain mold release or debris. other than that, i've heard too many at local tracks talk about ruining a tire from cutting too much or cutting them and they get out of round...both are bad....
