Tire Pressure

I will be running a stock Predator on a Sythe with new Burris slicks, using Welch red prep to start. Should my 9 yr old 100lb. Racer run 5L and 6R for Godspeed? When I raced a Tornado kart with a Mac 9 in the late 60s, there was no such thing as tire prep. Our big thing was adding a reed valve and porting the cylinder. Times have changed. We raced the Greene, NY, airport-paved road track and traveled to Williamsport, PA, for a larger, more challenging road course with elevation changes and an uphill reverse-banked corner. It was a blast. I want my son to enjoy this as much as I did.

Thank you for your kind offer of assistance. I am still putting the kart together. I hope to mount the engine/clutch and apply the body graphics tomorrow. I need to replace the rear bearings, so I am waiting for them to arrive from PRC. The fronts are fine, but the rears have a growl to them when I spin the axle. So much to do, I need a longer weekend.

That air pressure is not a bad place to start for a beginner. You'll want to increase air as he gains experience.

New tires would not be the preferred tire for that class. Did you have these tires cut? You don't want to show up with tires that have the factory glaze on them. I wouldn't be concerned with prepping tires as he's learning the kart and his way around the track. Jerry's red will lower the durometer of the tire and new tires are already on the soft side. There are people that know how to use tire prep to their advantage and others that know what they see other people do. There's a lot to learn with prep so keep it simple. I'm not trying to overwhelm you but rather trying to keep you from putting to much prep into the tire.

If you're looking for some help with chassis set-up or tires I'd get in touch with FBR out of Newport.
