Track Timing System

I need suggestions for a track timing system. A friend of mine has built a 1/10th mile dirt oval and we are looking for a way to have informal races and possibly a league in the future. I have been scouring the internet for solutions and it seems that all commercially available products are very pricey. Basically looking for something to keep track of 5-6 karts in a ~10lap race. Most karts have either mychron 3/4 and we have several AIM IR beacon transmitters.
