WEEDSPORT, NY (October 17, 2023) – For most of the weekend Weedsport Kartway’s Octoberfest Weekend appeared to be in doubt due to widespread rain in the Central New York area. However, when all was said and done, two complete shows were put in the record books with Trent Smith, Seth Whitney, Jared John and Riley Begy collecting the lion’s share of the weekend’s $14,000 purse and contingency monies.
Trent Smith would end the weekend as the Octoberfest 40 champion, claiming $2,000, despite only completing five laps on the kartway’s racing surface. Due to continued rain showers that pushed in just after qualifying, all feature finishing positions for Sunday’s main events were awarded based on time trials. Smith turned the day’s fastest lap in PRO Clone 360 to earn the featured victory of the weekend over Seth Whitney and David Hackett.
Smith would also stand as Sunday’s Clone Heavy winner making for a $2,200 pay day for the driver of the No. 28 on Sunday alone.
PRO victories on Sunday were also awarded to Jared John in Super Heavy as well as Riley Begy in Jr. Unrestricted, each worth $500.
Saturday’s program was completed in full with Whitney ending the 30-lap PRO Clone 360 Octoberfest main on top over Smith and Jon Keister. The win for Whitney was worth $1,000. Combined with his second place run on Sunday, Whitney was able to overcome Tanner Emmons in the DKMP/PRP PRO Kart Challenge standings to win yet another $500 on the weekend.
Whitney’s weekend collected the driver of the No. 505 over $2,700 in total as he also claimed the Infinit Shootout and Short Port Stakes titles, each worth another $200.
While he did not win one of the headline Octoberfest mains, Jared John did claim a PRO 360 win in the NYS Invitational. Utilizing a dry-tire impound for this race, eleven drivers answered the call with John eventually taking the top spot from Whitney in the late going for the $500 win. The victory was John’s second consecutive in the Invitational event, making him the first driver to win it twice.
In Saturday’s other PRO event it was again Riley Begy standing tall, besting Logan Brown and Savannah Simmons for the $300 score.
