Tuning Jet on Gas Flathead

Is there a rule of thumb for tuning the jet on a flathead carb on gas? Jet size, turns etc

^ pretty much covers it...
.038" 1 1/2 turns out on the needle. Lean it (in) until it runs clean on the top end.
If it shuts off for just a sec. at peak rpm, then it's too rich - turn the needle in until you get to 1/2 turn out, then go leaner on the jet if necessary.

You won't be that big on a 3HP carb due to the carb bore size and the A/F ratio.
It's been MANY years since we've "built" 3 HP engines for 1/4 midget and celebrity races.
I want to say that we were in the .034" range.
