Valve Lash

If all things in the engine are right; If you set your valves when the engine is hot to zero lash this will likely be optimal or so close you're splitting hairs. Certainly some builders will have their own claims but if you have no other direction set them both hot to zero and you'll be fine.

The cam opens the exhaust 45-50 thousandths under low rpm. A few thousandths of error open should not keep the engine from starting. If it doesn't start your compression is very low and the engine needs rebuilt.
