its funny you point out the soft engagement. I tried a SMC for the first time with my son last weekend and he told me the engine ran smoother. I also changed the head so i thought maybe it was that but now that you bring it up i will change it back and see if he notices
 
I love the SMC clutches on plates and stockers especially flatties! The soft smooth engagement of power helps the recovery time from that zap of power the hit of most other clutches makes. On a momentum track no biggy but on a paper clip where you gotta work from a dig a lot it pays off ... in my eyes anyhow.
