As I said earlier 1 tooth is 15* that is a radical change in valve timing it will not benefit the engine advanced or retarded. poboyracer did you advance or retard your cam one tooth? As far as marking the gear to the crank you will se if it moved in relation to the crank but the marks will still be lined up.

I did both. When retarted it would hit a dead spot almost like the engine died but still ran good up to about 5400. Then advanced one tooth and would turn over 6k. This is with a stock flywheel also

I ran mine 6400rpm when it had the stock cam in that was set one tooth off. When I put the .310 cam in it I lined it up dot to dot.

Did you by any chance measure the base circle .
If so what did it measure?

Oh sorry, no I didn’t measure it. I bought it used from a reputable kart shop. I just took the guys word on it. I have the side cover off the motor now, I will try and measure it tomorrow.
