What's involved in building a limited?

Starting with a stock animal. What does it take to turn it into a limited?

A local track has started having limited races every 4-6 weeks. The lap times are generally not much different from the front running clones. I think we'd be competitive with doing the minimal amount necessary.

Minimalist approach, get wf head and piston and rod. Change camshaft and slightly heavier springs. Bigger carb on methanol.
Or just go whole wf setup to get feet wet.

Flathead rules (old school) required to keep stock size valves and stock head with valve cutouts. And stock overbores only. Any piston and rod combo. Stock stroke only.

Not sure how your track defines limited modified.
Then it becomes speed costs money, how fast do you want to go.?

As long as everyone approaches this as a fun class to go a little faster for about the same money as the clone classes, the class will grow.
If it becomes a horsepower war, the class won't survive long.

I like the mod 1 cam over the 308, but takes a little more spring pressure.

Spring for the tool steel cam to take advantage of the adjustable cam timing.

Advance the cam for little more bottom end, and not turn so hard.

Faster Motors offers a super stock kit for reasonable upgrade with the things needed to convert lo206 for more power.

Not sure which cam he uses, but is an engineered package requiring no machine work.
Upgrades are also available to tweak power up, of course, more money.

.310, an-mod1, P-open, and several custom grinds; all depends on how much power you can hook up on your track within the power band.
Also depends on the rules that your track follows (as mentioned above - it can vary considerably.)
WKA limited modified (animal) would be stock valve size in stock head...aftermarket rod, piston, cam, springs, and generally a 304WX carb and manifold.
