who builds the best clone?

Best Clone Engines was Patented 8 years ago by Jamie Webb :)

The LEGAL engine is no better than the tires you have on... Thats why the boys in the southeast don't conplain about engine prices,, their tire bill is normally 4-5 times that..

That's a Very Good question! I purpose a 'National Engine Builders Championship' too take place at the 'Big Show' in Charlotte next year. Maybe one (or more) of the Dyno manufactures could/would sponsor it by setting up their dyno's! Just a brain-*art i've been sit'n on , but I have passed the 'idea' by a couple of 'respected' Big name guy's and...'they' liked the idea!! This would be a great sponsorship opportunity for MANY!!

Their version of "Spirit and Intent" is different too....I bet! :)

thanks johnny, i found a somebody who builds in the fayetteville area, SPR they sell there clones race ready for 700.00. do you know anything about them?

If the Engine is built to the rules. They are all going to be pretty much equal. So I was find an engine builder close to you with good customer service.

Find a local builder, the trackside support you get from a local builder will beat the bragging rights you get by having a big name builders sticker on your engine. I know id much rather have support at the track or anytime i need it than have maybe an extra tenth of a hp, if even that much. If they are built to the specs and are legal, they will all be putting out close to the same power, withing a tenth or 2 anyways. You arent going to see one builder putting out engines that are half a hp or more better than the rest, not legal ones anyways.

I like Screamin Clones's idea, have a competition at one of the shows for all the engine builders to compete to see who has the best engines, and post the results on here for newbies to see so we dont have this question popping up once a week.

Would be nice to have a Engine builder build off at a show and all on the same Dyno. The top 5 get tech. It would be fun to watch and fun for the engine builder.

someone would have to buy the engines like an average joe would, and not tell the builders or you would get what happen with the carb shoot out, some got upset because they didnt get to hand pick it, but it was what they would send to average joe racers they wouldnt know.
Its amazing at some of the engines that are sold to average racers, after all they have to get rid of the sub-par parts somehow

Engine builder competition will never happen. The biggest names have way too much at stake to risk losing a dyno competition.
There's always risk in doing business! If the BIG builder's are too 'vain' to display their goods under equal conditions, then maybe that's saying 'something'. But, you have to admit, something like this could give the 'Little-Guy's' a shot in the arm!! 'Cost' doesn't need to be an excuse for No-show either because 'any' builder could simply enter/ship their 'product and the 'dyno' person(s) would be making the 'pulls'. Motor builders (includes me) would be sweating it out and the racer spectators would be having a BLAST!

If the builders know whats going to happen, they would hand pick and massage the engine, that will not be the engine that someone would order and get, so the dyno race would be null and void

It is not usually the physical build that seperates the engines. It is the Dyno time. A tuner/builder would spend as much time on the dyno as they would on assembly. The only way this would work would be pre determined timing spec. and one carberator and pipe moved from one engine to the next. and guess what you will find variations in HP in the range of 1 to 2 tenths of a HP and you could not declare a winner in that range.

I dis-agree.....all parties get the opportunity too offer their Best 'product' and play by the same rules! As stated above, the Top-5 (tbd) would be subjected too 'full-tech' inspection. Take it a step futher and one of the stipulations could be that all 'legal' engines 'could' be Actioned to the highest bidders after at end of the 'show'...!
