They are not too hard to make if you have some heavy wall square tubing.

I've used a 3 jaw puller, leaving the nut on the crank but loosened. You only need just enough gap to "pop" the gear. I made sure NOT to use a hammer on the crank, but I did tap the gear itself with a rubber mallet occasionally. I wonder if a slide hammer on a custom fixture would work well?

You can use a small puller from an autoshop.

Especially if its shot no concern about damage .

I use a Pitman Arm Remover to take mine off. Works great.

Don't hit the crank in or out

Get the 3 piece driver setup from Hegar. Just a bolt and big washer to hold on the gear and the hub is keyed for the inside of whatever driver you put on. Makes life super easy
