AKRA Official Statement

Let's get a good pre tech on the karts and safety gear starting with the recon nerf bars they are not safe and are illegal per AKRA and WKA rule

There should always be good pre-tech of both the kart and the safety equipment. If you're track isn't doing both you're racing at the wrong track.

Why are they not safe? There bigger tubing and just as high as other bars.
The standard for a nerf bar in the industry has always and should remain a double rail design. You are seeing more and more karts climbing over one another which makes the bottom of the kart exposed to another driver. The bottom of the side panel gets very dangerous with the risk of cutting and injuring another driver if there is no tubing along the side panels sharp fiberglass bottoms. This is a serious concern that a manufacturer can build a kart with total disregard for the safety rules that are and have been in place for years. The karting industry has to have some standards for safety and should always be respected. What's next?? How about let's build a 1" single tube front bumper?? Just because the nerf bar or whatever is easy to build and doesn't effect to karts handling when it gets bent doesn't do much for you if it has created another dangerous situation. Black and white is what motors are inspected by and they need to whithen the rules that are supplied or you are disqualified, how is the karts black and white rules different? Safety should be the most important concern, lets not close a blind eye to this then at the next race spend 4 hours in a tech shed after a race worried about someone's engine.
