Bearing Shields

I ordered all new bearings for this year, and now I need to remove one shield off of each of the bearings for cleaning and re-lubing purposes. What is the best way to get the shields off without hurting the bearing? Black rubber shields.

The rubber would be "seals." They remove quite easily with a pick or small screwdriver.
I remove the shields and seals from one side of all of our bearings and replace them with the re-usable bearing shields. Remove the seal and replace the shield on the opposite side of rear axle bearings. On the front hubs, I remove the all the shields/seals from both sides of the bearing, then just use the re-usable shields on the outsides - between the bearings, inside the hub, is left open - again, super easy to clean and lube.
Super easy to do full bearing maintenance in a very short amount of time this way.
