Hello my name is Brian Mansfield and I have been a member here on Bob's for many years.
"I am not one to usually ask for help but under my circumstance I felt I had no other choice in this situation. Around 10 years ago I had my first colonoscopy and was diagnosed with Diverticulitis and also had 3 polyps removed and since that time have had multiple colonoscopy including 3 in last 4 years with most recent being June 10th. I have stayed sick, fatigued, and various other issues over the last year as my condition got worse. On May 10th I was hospitalized for 3 days due to these issues. Upon being released from the hospital I went to see my Gastronlogist at the end of May. During this time I deleveoped a kidney stone and had to have surgery to remove it on June 3. On June 10th I would have a Colonoscopy that I mentioned before and it was found I had a enlarged colon (approx. 8-9 cm in diameter in the transverse and descending colon). I was referred to a Colorectal Surgeon whom I have been seeing since the week of June 15th and have seen on several occasions over the last month. On July 2nd I had a endoscope done and it was found the transverse colon had enlarged to the point it was pushing into my stomach causing my stomach to be odd shaped. My actual diagnosis is Colonic Inertia (which means slow colon transit time or in my case my colon has almost stopped working) which was found through a test called a Sitz Marker test, Mega Colon, and what I already knew I had diverticulitis but after surgery. Upon seeing the surgeon the following Monday I was told I would need a surgery called a Subtotal Colectomy to remove most all of my colon and I would need a illeostomy bag for at least 4 months possibly longer.
I would have the surgery on July 29th it was found my colon was around 6 inches in diameter. After the surgery the doctor told me I was very lucky young man to be alive. After the surgery I had many complications that resulted in several hospital stays and trips to ER. I had to get set up on IV treatments for fluids and medication because things didn't go as planned after the surgery.
On November 4th I had the surgery to reverse my ileostomy and once again after this surgery I had complications and continue to have complications. My surgeon has told me I have a severe dysmotitliy disorder call "intestinal psuedo obstruction disorder" of the small intestine and it makes things worse on me that I only have 6 inches of colon remaining. He has referred me to a specialist and said I will need to get set up on treatments most likely to see if it can help treat the symptoms. He did tell me there is no cure for what I have but only medications and treatments to help treat the condition.
I stay sick most of the time and don't get to go and do the things I used to do (especially going to the race track) because my condition causes me frequent trips to the bathroom at times. I have exhausted all my leave at work and I am only getting short term disability which is only 60% of my normal pay. In addition I am unable to work my second job as Recreation Director for our community and no longer able to promote races. My health conditions have caused great financial strain on my family. The doctors have informed me that they highly doubt I will ever work a full time job again.
All funds will help pay for gas for trips to doctor, hotel stays, meals when we travel to doctor, and co-pays.
Again I don't normally like to ask for help but any donations would be greatly appreciated.
God Bless Each Of You"
