Carb sizing

So I know this is probably a newb question, but I’ve always been a little confused by how sellers measure their carbs. From what I’ve seen SA carbs / 390 carbs are usually measured at the Venturi, while slide carbs are measured at the the throttle bore (I assume.) I would think that the throttle bore size would be more meaningful for building purposes, except in the case were rules specify Venturi size, I assume this is why most SA carbs are measured at this point. So am I correct in my reasoning? This is something I’ve wondered about for a while, also what is the throttle bore size for some common SA carbs e.g .625, .650, .675? What about a 390 carb you’ll often see .900 Venturi, what is the actual throttle size? Thanks. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
