Chain length

On a Triton, or any kart for that matter
Is it ok to run chain a little shorter?
I've heard some say they always shorten theirs up from standard
I know it will move the engine back some.
Advantages or disadvantages?

When the kids were younger and needed nose, I would run the chains a bit longer. Now I try to keep the back of the motor even with the nerf bar tube.
