They tried that several yrs ago., went back to weenie. But at that time they changed plates when they tried big pipe.

If I recall, the switch to the weenie pipe was in response to a racing accident in where a child driver rear ended another kart and was badly burnt when the muffler came through his/her face shield. I wanna say this was circa 2015/2016
Dyno Don may have more info here. But the end goal was to ensure the exhaust was in front of the rear bumper, and to reduce the speeds of the plate classes by reducing engine power especially in the higher rpm range.
FWIW, I've got no skin in the game here, I build engines that use both weenie and big pipes, and I feel the big pipe can be as safe as the weenie. If I had a "say" in the rules. My move would be to have Red and Jr1 (green) be weenie pipes, and purple and blue be big pipes. But that's just me..
