Cutting Tires

Whats the benefit to cutting tires? We run Burris tires, and there are flat cuts and round cuts and the depths of the cuts and all that, we have always just pulled the tires out of the wrap, mounted and prepped them and that was it.

truing, which is making sure the tire is perfectly round, and how it was explained to me, cutting to certain depths/shapes controls how slow/fast the tire heats up which then controls how slow/fast the prep is used up and how slow/fast the rubber gets used up. can also be used to attain certain tire circumferences when stagger is an issue. I'm sure there are more others will share.

This article is in serious need of some updating and correction, but, it'll get you started, or at least get you thinking.

Flat cut Burris for medium to higher biting surfaces.
Round cut Burris for low/no bite surfaces.

Thinner for higher bite, thicker for lower bite.

That should get you thinking. ;)
