Lots of things for sale now .
Found a piston grinder (van norman ) . Seems like an odd machine when the engine goes bad its ussualy the bore is enlarged .
Grinding the piston undersize seems detrimental too the cure .
Maybe for tractors but scuffed piston made smaller ? Then the ring depth is a problem also .
 
Probably was used to grind pistons that were knurled, that was a trick used many years ago. Valve guides were also knurled and then reamed to size. -- Chuck

True , I've had a few knurled myself . But hand fit .
Ok your Saying , production knurling then ground to size .
That makes more sense .
