Needle bearing

That's something from the 70's. About the time when everybody was figuring out the 5hp cranks didn't get enough oil up to the crank on the flywheel side at high rpm. Loose needles fitting into a machined pocket, likely McCulloch needle bearings.

Edited to add: It didn't work very well.

LOL, the McCulloch needle bearings didn't work very well either!
I can't recall the time spent looking for them and counting them (in the expansion chamber pipes) after a big bang. :)
