Predator Gearing

Run 1/8 mile dirt champ chart predator class.
Have to run 15 tooth driver.
Running a 15/56 turning right at 5000-5030 rpm.
We are getting beat on re-starts by the one kart every week. If we start in front of that kart he has drive in deep and out of control to get to us in the corners.
Just that initial start he gets us and cant catch back up. I put a watch on them and lap times are then even with ours. I need more to stay with them at the start.
Would dropping to a 54 or 55 tooth help that?

The clutch adjustment had no positive effect ?
Its doubtful but you never know till you try it .
Technically its a higher gear so less torque multiplication .
It may keep you in a higer engine torque range for longer or give you more speed going into the corner .

Yes the clutch adjustment helped did the scale trick on that.
What would help at the start? Going to a 57 or 58 gear?

Yes but that will also reduce top speed .
Obviously any weight disadvantage will reduce starts .
Believe it or not some say bouncing up and down at the start helps .
Probably not feasabile in a champ though .
Possibly add as much weight to the clutch as possible then reset the stall speed .
The other competitor have a different clutch ?

Dont know what clutch they run. Has to be drum clutch.
I run a blaze with white springs and one weight on each shoe.

Are the shoes pointed forward on the clutch ?
That is a more aggressive engagement .
A light sanding of the drum and shoes if its glazed over at all .

Yes where its circled is pointed forward. I have one weight in each shoe. Does it make a difference what hole the weight is in. Along as all weights in same hole on each shoe

Is timing set to the limit? Word on the street is 25* for stock rules. I also hear builder say between 22-24 comes factory. If yours is 22 and you change to 25, there is horsepower there.
Is carb tuned to the most efficient EGT to your location?
Is clutch set at max torque per engine builders dyno sheet?
Are you geared to just below valve float? I take it you are using 10.8 springs?

All of the 6 or 8 tracks we race at state that the flywheel timing and key must remain in stock locations.

Knowing what your complete rules are ( Engine , tires , ect ) and what you have done to get you as close to those rules would help knowing how to help you . With out good info , it would really be just guessing . JMO
