You scuff them on the kart, on the track, just to heat cycle the tires. It sounds like your asking about resurfacing them, on a stand with a grinder, right? Same air pressure you race at, usually 5-6psi, and keep them wet while working them
That's resurfacing tire not scuffing, you can do that but it's by far not the best way, would use finer grit and keep it wet so you don't over heat the tire.
I prefer a courser finish with soft track, dusty track, low/no-bite track surfaces. Finer finish with harder track surfaces (typical of most Maxxis tracks.)
On most midwest Burris tracks, I finish using a belt sander with 80g at a 30* cross hatch, the plateau finish with 120g similar to how I would finish an engine cylinder. If I'm on a higher bite Burris rule track surface, I'd finish smoother for sure (220g followed by 320g.)
