Seat height for dirt

Hi,

I am wondering if I could please get some advice. I have 2 boys that race at Ipswich dirt karts (Dirt Circuit track), unfortunately I have 2 boys racing and can’t afford a dedicated dirt chassis, so the boys run bitumen karts both about 8 year old karts.

I am wondering what the affect would be if I run the seat higher than level with chassis rail. Up to 35mm high from top of chassis rail.

My youngest boy

141 cm, 29kg
Redspeed cadet kart
Medium 30mm axle 980mm long
Thin floor pan
Neutral castor
1mm neg camber
15mm spacers inside front wheels
Short rear hubs, we run flush to 30mm in on the axle
Rear wet rims with bridgestone white tyres

Raising the seat will increase VCG which will result in more weight transfer in the turns. As small as your sons are, it may or may not be noticeable, but the stop watch will let you know if it helps with lap times or not.

Similar to racing on asphalt in the rain you can raise the seat up to the top of the rails. You can test if it’s advantageous by putting some dense foam under them with the seat in current position. You may benefit even more from increasing your caster as much as possible.
