Spark Plug Gap Question

In reference to the NGk and Autolite plugs; is there a certain gap distance that is better than the other? Is it plug specific and / or engine builder specific? Has anyone tested on the dyno different gap distances?

Thanks for the info. I'm curious if anyone did some testing with just changing the gap distances if it would make that much of a difference. I'm guessing it all depends on the plug itself.

I've probably got as good of a dyno as anyone in the country as far as accurate and repeatable and I've not seen enough difference in plug gap alone to be concerned with (as long as you are in a reasonable range - ie, too close kills power, as does too far.)

So much depends on other factors, a/f ratio, AD, coil voltage at the plug, compression, pipe scavenge, and more. Example: With a higher voltage coil you can make more power with a wider gap (larger flame kernel) and more fuel, but there's a lot more to it than just gapping the plug wider. :)
