Tach Question Drops

RPM drop is mainly determined by track configuration and how good the track is, meaning grip.

Momentum tracks can have high drops for it's configuration when the track is bad. Same goes for a track with tight corners. Might be a bad track and drop more than normal. It's all depending on how the kart is handling compared to what the track is doing. Could have gotten gear bound.

Our lap times where good but noticed our drops where very high from 2000-3200 why is this??

When you say very High what are you comparing to ?
Was there any consistency to the drops as far as location on the track ? or were they Different drops different locations each lap ?

Were there any differences with the track, large kart count, track either completely terrible, or better than normal?

To drop double or even triple what your normal drops are there had to be a large change in the track, or in your tires. How close to your normal times were your so called "good" lap times? When you say good, did you win, top five, top three? In the hunt for the lead? We have no clue what good is for you and your track.

There are a lot of variables in why RPM's dropped. It's always good to know why something happened and what it took to fix it. But at the end of the day, the most important thing to know....were we as competitive as normal compared to our competition ? If you were, then maybe it was affecting everybody else too. If not, then there is work to be done in finding the culprit.

^ There ya go.

The OP mentioned that his lap times were "still good" -- didn't say they were "as good as previously low drop laps." Were they "as good" or simply "competitive" lap times?
Distinguishing this will tell us if it was the track slowing down or your kart slowing down.
If you slowed down compared to your competitors, I'd be looking for obvious problems first....head gasket, spark plug gap closed up (flathead), bearings tight (axle and front hubs), axle loose (shifting and rubbing a wheel or brake rotor,) clutch slippage, flat or low psi tire, and lots more to check.
I'd also be talking with your driver and get some honest feedback about lifting in the corners and for how long.

Sounds to me your comparing your own lap times ( which is fine ) before your kart , Gearing,or Tires were off some or all, however your driver was comfortable with the feel Flat footing it more thus more constant drops, Now your kart is better ( Faster ) the drivers not ready for the faster feel yet, thus cracking the throttle a lot more ( Again which is Fine ), but in the end lap times are comparable.

Which could have lead to being gear bound. If the track was faster than normal then you could have been on the wrong gear. Was the engine turning more rpm than normal, or about the same as normal?

It simply could have been tires, like Racing Promoter said, the track could have been faster and your driver wasn't able to hold the throttle like before. Could be a huge assortment of things. May never know.

Thanks for all the info guys you rock! Our rpms where about the same 6150, but maybe we did need to go down in a gear?

You were not gear bound, don't get confused, To be gear bound with High drops you would have to be 4 teeth or more off, the Tracks not changing enough for that, plus Gear bound happens more times on 100 % momentum Tracks, not so much when ya gotta crack the throttle anyway, Besides you will confirm gear point quicker on your tach when your drops are a lot less than normal, usually winning around 400 drop and your at 200 some drop Then your gear bound.
