If you want a great read, Amazon "The Beast" by Jade Gurss."
The story of Penske's Secret ILMOR Pushrod engine and how they got it done in 26 weeks.

....also read Mark Donahue's "The Unfair Advantage". A great read.

Also, read anything you can get by Smokey Yunnick.

In the "Beast" he tells of the Penske crew escorting Smokey out of the garage for trying to get a glimpse of the secrete engine.

WP,
I've got both books coming. Have had the "Unfair Advantage" for years.

Are you foolin' and fiddlin' with these little hotrods we run?
The Unlimiteds/Opens move has extended my interest in karting.

Am building 4 of the JR 249 cc billets, even as we speak.

No Paul, Ryan has a late model stock now. Takes up most of my time.
You'll enjoy this book, Penske is a remarkable man.

Smokie wasn't too popular with the France dynasty because he took advantage of so many loopholes in their rulebooks. I will always think that Smokie belongs in the ca$hcar hall of fame as much or more than some of those already in there.

Roger took FULL advantage of a small change in the rules for the '94 500. USAC dropped the words "stock block" from their specs for a Pushrod engine. Maybe not exactly a loop hole. Seems the intent was to allow stronger after market blocks to be used on production engines. But it actually opened the door for a purpose built cam in block engine to run at the specified 55" boost.
Jade Gurss does a fine job on the research and explanation of this great twenty year old story.
