Throttle Setup?

Hello all, new to karting, and I am building up my first kart. I have an old Trackmagic chassis that has been cut and rewelded for a 4 cycle motor. For the time being I am just going to run the clone motor that came with it, and eventually move to an LO206.

I have mounted the motor, and ran the throttle cable. With the throttle cable run straight from the motor to the pedal, the throttle works great but the cable gets caught by the steering linkage when turning. So I tried to run the throttle cable against the frame, meaning it was no longer in a straight line. Now the throttle is not returning when I let off the gas. Am I on the right track? I was thinking that maybe I just need a stronger cable and return springs on the pedal?

I would love it if I could see some pictures of your throttle setup, or if anybody has any tips/tricks I would appreciate it!
