Whats the best way to mount a 6in wide maxxis on an 8.75 wheel. When I put in tire band im no where close.

Squeeze it down manually with the air chuck clipped on until it starts to fill with air, then remove the chuck and place the tire in the tire ring and continue filling until it beads.
Removing the valve core helps tremendously.
Getting the tire warm (sitting in the sun for an hour) helps as well.
If you have an adjustable tire band, you can squeeze the tire down to help it start on the slopes of the wheel.

I will try to warm it up. It was very cold when I tried to mount it. Yes I always use some type of lube.
