Gearing

Thank you guys I’ll let y’all know how it goes this weekend .. gonna try out my new build reason for ask about gearing is bc my max toqure is 6500 and my max hp is at 6700 with 23.45hp .. I’ll let y’all know if y’all help me thanks
Ok so no tach ?
Did you switch engines from the 1st post ?
If its giving up half way down the straight then you need too fix the engine or change the gear , the gear is simplest .
Put a 14/66 on and try that. , your going too need to make big changes with seat of the pants as a tuning tool . Then narrow it down .
23hp is substantial , what mods are in the engine ?

72mm tilly 275cam .80 over clone crank big valve head 1.3 roller rockers and Ultralight pvl magneto system and Barry young sa carb on alky and the gear ratio changed when I put the 1.3 rockers in it Wisco piston and 3.595 billet clone rod
 
I had my dads tach on it before and it was 7500 and I have just got my motor back for engine builder and it that’s that I don’t need to turn it over 6800
Based on 7500 with 11 /66 for 6800 rpm you should be at 12/62 or 63 not a 12/60, however good chance your 7500 rpm reading was not accurate as you were still gear bound, bottom line you need a tach asap even if it's only one of those $20 deals that only give rpms.

Where can you find one of them I can’t find none except expensive ones
 
I had got 1.3 rocker and a big bore carb put in it so it changed a lot
Confused again !! I'm taking it like your now on a different motor than when you first posted ? But you were saying 6800 rpm then, and your still saying 6800 rpm target, so what changed a lot ?

I went for stock rocker and holymoses carb to 1.3 rocker and Barry young sa carb and not the gear is a lot different it’s the same motor just put different rockers and carb on it

Ok we cleared that up, but your still saying your looking for 6800 rpm, so IF the 7500 rpm reading was correct with the 11/66 for 6800 rpm you should of been 11/59 ish or if you want to try the 12 driver it would be 12/63 ish.

Yes sir then why with a 12 /60 it’s wouldNt pick with cut out mid straightway

As flattop pointed out, the motor is just not running right now, or with the 11/66 you were gear bound way off on gearing, I don't know if you need to go as drastic of a change as a 14/66 to prove that, but I'd take a big swing at it to confirm.

Even If it is an 1/8th or little bigger It's tight turns especially the one end, I'd try the 12/63 first see if any better If your sure motor is running OK, If that makes it worse I'd then try the 14/66 just to prove If it was gear bound.
